New Place

Stills and motion for Pale Blue Eyes third studio record, ‘New Place’

The process of creating the film began in Matt and Lucy’s upstairs spare room, with a camera, a few synths, a couple of guitars, and a mic or two. Over the next few months, after a lengthy studio build, I dipped in and out of their recording process. My approach was to view it as authentically as possible. After all, it was being made in the backyard of their home — a place not regularly associated with making a record, but one that, now it’s finished, speaks volumes about how grounded it feels from track one through twelve. Once all the footage had been shot and the record had been final mixed, I wanted to create something that allowed the audience to dip their toes in, seeing who and where had an influence on its making.
